The RICE method stands for rest, ice, compression, and elevation. This is important, especially since many people find that fractures can oftentimes hurt more than a solid break. You want to protect your foot while it is healing and you want to keep pressure off of it. Therefore, even if you seem capable of limping around with the cast, you need to stay off of it. Use crutches to keep your foot off of the ground. If you have additional injuries, a wheelchair is always another option for you. Also, never remove the cast on your own. It should only be removed once the doctor has said it is time, and then he or she will do the removal for you. It is imperative that you allow a medical professional to remove the cast so it is done properly.
