Whether it is on your lower or upper back, back pain can be unbearable. If the pain is severe enough, it can be difficult to get out of bed some days. Even if you are healthy, you could still do things that hurt your back. Here are five habits that can lead to back pain.

Having Bad Posture

If you sit at a desk all day for your job, it is very important to practice good posture. If you slouch all the time, it can put a lot of stress on your back and weaken your muscles. Make sure to sit up straight and avoid leaning back in your chair.

Wearing High Heels

High heels might look fashionable, but they can put a lot of stress on your back. When you wear very high heels, you have to arch your back, which can stress out your joints. It is okay to wear high heels occasionally, but stick to normal shoes most days. Traditional shoes might not be as stylish, but at least you will avoid back pain.

Sleeping on an Old Mattress

How old is your mattress? If it is more than 10 years old, it is time to replace it. An older mattress does not provide your back with the support it needs. A new mattress is an investment, but it is well worth the price. If you buy a new mattress, your back will feel a lot better. 

Carrying a Heavy Bag

If you always carry a heavy bag, you are doing a lot of harm to your back. Putting a heavy bag over your shoulder can make your spine imbalanced. It might be convenient to put all of your belongings in your bag, but it will not do your back any favors. If you carry a lighter bag, your back will thank you.

Lifting Heavy Items Incorrectly

If you attempt to lift a heavy item incorrectly, it can result in a back injury. When you have to lift something heavy, bend your knees and keep the item as close to your body as possible. If the item is still too heavy, ask someone to help you.
